The Stadtrat (Town Council)


On 13 June 1999 the Stadtrat of the third legislative period was elected.

Corresponding to the vote the seats in the Stadtrat were distributed to parties and „Wählervereinigungen“ as following:


Stadtrat of the second legislative period (1999 – 2004)

8 seats Christlich Demokratische Union
7 seats Partei des Demokratischen Sozialismus
6 seats Sozialdemokratische Partei Deutschlands
3 seats Straßenverein e. V. Berliner Str./Käthe-Kollwitz-Straße
1 seat Matthias Broda für Weißwasser

As specified in the „Gemeindeordnung für den Freistaat Sachsen“ the Stadtrat lays down the principles and decides about all matters of the town. In Weißwasser the Stadtrat comprises 25 Stadträte (Town councillor) and the Lord Mayor who is the chairperson for this main authority at the same time.



Einwohnerfragestunde (resident’s question time)

During the regular meetings („ordentliche Sitzungen“) of the Stadtrat there is a question time always at 6 pm. Every resident is qualified to ask the Lord Mayor or the Stadtrat questions about matters of the town. Usually the answer will be verbally by the Lord Mayor or someone authorized. In case that an answer is not possible at present the question will be answered in the next meeting of the Stadtrat.
