Welcome
You have searched and found the town Weisswasser on the Internet!
The „Grosse Kreisstadt“ (Large district town) is situated
right in the middle of the Upper Lusatia („Oberlausitz“)
– it’s tucked away between the „Spreewald“ and
the Lusatia mountains („Lausitzer Gebirge“). It is a marvellous
part of Germany with its heath and pond landscape, the ending in mountainous
country and the picturesque and beautiful valleys.
Because of our geographic situation, close to the German - Polish borderline,
we have been maintaining intensive relations for years with our twin
town Zary (Sorau), just 40 kms away from here.
The city is marked by an old tradition of glass industry, by brown
coal mining and the power station in Boxberg where the brown coal will
be converted into electricity.
As we are a quite young and lively city, sports plays an important
part as well.
The residents of our city can do more than 36 different sports in their
leisure time. There are world champions, European champions and German
champions among them. A prominent draw for traditional reasons is ice
sports. Particularly the successful ice hockey teams - boys, pupil,
youth and junior team as well as the pro field are known in the whole
federal republic.
On the following pages we compiled a lot of current and interesting
facts for you.
Go and see yourself and get to know us as a visitor, an investor or
a future inhabitant.
We are looking forward to your visit.
Yours
Hartwig Rauh
Lord Mayor
