The zoo at the lake Jahnteich is one of the most beautiful municipal facilities. Located in the park at the Jahnteich it accommodates wild animal species from Europe, North and South America, Asia and Africa on an area of 6 hectare, but in the last years the main area shifted to animals from Europe and Asia. You can see 300 wild and domestic animal species in more than 80 races there.

The zoo Weißwasser is on the way to a modern and attractive animal husbandry. More and more new and lifelike arranged enclosures and aviaries make the facility more attractive for visitors and animals.

Among other things bears and lynxes got new spacious enclosures; a new facility for the wolves is to follow. Accessable enclosures allow the direct contact to the animals.

Attractively designed presentation boards and games impart the knowledge about the relations in the nature surroundings in an easy way. The „Lernwerkstatt Natur“, a study workshop of the Zoo- und Waldschule of the zoo offers lively courses in addition to the lessons at school for students of all classes.
